Awal Maret 2009, saat lagi makan malam sama teman, aku iseng mengecek email dari handphone. Tak sadar aku kaget ketika menerima email. Seperti apa email itu?

Alhamdulillah, aku bersyukur. Tidak sia-sia perjuangan mencari beasiswa Erasmus Mundus! Aku masuk main list! Main list berarti 99 persen dapat beasiswa. Aku tinggal nunggu approval dari markas Uni Eropa di Brussel, Belgia.

Aku belajar dari kesalahan tahun 2008. Tahun 2008 aku tersingkir gara-gara masalah surat rekomendasi. Sekarang tahun 2009 aku berhasil dapat beasiswa.

Hm…tapi aku masih menunggu Eiffel Scholarship. Sesuai jadwal akan diumumkan 23 Maret 2009. Aku menunggu hingga akhir Maret 2009.
Tanggal 23 Maret sudah berlalu. Dan beasiswa belum juga keluar. Aku masih harap-harap cemas menunggu.

Tanggal 24 Maret…belum juga keluar.

Hingga tanggal 27 Maret jam setengah dua belas malam, aku tiba-tiba dapat telepon dari seorang teman. “Arip, kamu dapat beasiswa Eiffel! Serius! Cepat buka website!”

Aku tidak langsung percaya.

Aku baru percaya ketika melihat namaku tercantum di website www.agide.asso.fr. Inilah pengumuman di internet. Meski belum mendapat surat formal, inilah secara resmi pengumuman beasiswa.

Alhamdulillah, aku berhasil mendapat beasiswa Eiffel. Setelah berjuang dan menunggu dengan sabar, rupanya jalan itu terbuka sudah. Aku langsung sujud syukur atas anugerah ini. Rupanya, Tuhan sudah membuka jalan.
Seminggu kemudian, aku dapat kiriman email dari TSE :

The winners at Toulouse School of Economics for M 1 (1st year of the Master in Economics)  are: Mohamad AlHajj, Yi Dong, Shivani Gowind, Justina Klimaviciute, Arip Muttaqien, Tian Peng, Klarizze Puzon, He Sun, Mr X, Haihan Yu, and Wen Zhou

Most of you, I hope, will confirm they are coming to Toulouse and thus will have to do some more administrative process. In particular, you should register at Campus France (www.campusfrance.org) and apply again on line to the master, as if you were not yet accepted, in order to get the on line acceptance of the University. The reference of the degree  at Toulouse University (Toulouse 1) is presently unknown by me but Mohamad Al Hajj (first in the alphabetical ranking) managed to register and apply, thus maybe he can tell us  – when I am looking for the list of the degrees I only find the M 2 specializations.
And you should write somewhere that you are already accepted and that you won the Eiffel scholarship.
Because at some point of registration they will ask you to pay for Campus France services. And Eiffel grant holders do not have to pay (you will not pay either for the visa, for your flight ticket, for tuition here, etc….).

I shall send you now an official letter of acceptance but it will not be very useful now.  I should receive your official letter for the Eiffel grant in late April or beginning of May. I’ll send it to you only if you received first the letter from TSE. In June, you should receive e-mails from Egide Toulouse (I do hope in English) asking for your actual departure place (in late August if you attend a French course in Toulouse before the beginning of the academic year – in late September if you don’t need a French course) to book your flight to Toulouse.
Don’t worry for the visa process now. It will be eased by Egide  (but you can ask what are the necessary papers).

As the University might have to send you a letter in July, please tell me if your address will change during the holidays….

Inilah pengumuman resmi dari TSE. Berarti aku tinggal menunggu untuk mengurus visa.

Lengkap sudah proses pencarian beasiswa.

Awal April 2009, aku dapat kepastian dua beasiswa di dua tempat berbeda. Pertama, QEM dengan beasiswa Erasmus Mundus dan TSE dengan beasiswa Eiffel.

Bingung. Aku bingung karena dua-duanya sama-sama menarik. Aku belum memutuskan mana yang kupilih. Aku mesti mencari banyak pertimbangan. Aku putuskan cari banyak informasi tentang QEM dan TSE. Aku cari tahu siapa alumni asal Indonesia yang pernah sekolah disitu. Aku minta pendapat senior yang studi ekonomi di Eropa. Semuanya hanya untuk satu keputusan, QEM atau TSE.

Setelah menimbang dan menimbang, aku akhirnya pilih TSE. Banyak alasan yang kupertimbangkan, mulai dari kurikulum, profesor, ranking, nominal beasiswa hingga tempat studi.

Nominal Eiffel sebesar lebih dari 1.100 euro per bulan sudah cukup untuk hidup di Toulouse. Eiffel menawarkan fasilitas lebih bagus daripada Erasmus Mundus, mulai dari tiket pesawat terbang, pengurusan tempat tinggal, asuransi hingga perjalanan ke luar negeri. Sebuah program yang menarik!

Lalu bagaimana nasib beasiswa yang lain? Aku sudah tidak ada kabar dari beasiswa World Bank. Untuk DIKTI, aku dapat pangilan interview di kantor pusat Depdiknas. Aku akhirnya datang. Dan memang nothing to loose. Tidak terlalu berniat. Toh, jika memang aku dapat beasiswa DIKTI, aku tidak boleh pegang beasiswa lain.

Oh…tidak mungkin aku melepas beasiswa Eiffel. Dari banyak sumber, aku tahu bahwa beasiswa DIKTI kadang-kadang terlambat datang. Coba bayangkan, hidup di luar negeri tanpa keuangan yang jelas.

Sebenarnya aku berpeluang besar untuk mendapat beasiswa DIKTI. Sesi interview, lancar-lancar saja. Dan karena aku mau ambil program master, tidak terlalu banyak pertanyaan.

Hanya satu saja kekurangan. Aku tinggal melengkapi surat perjanjian kontrak dengan Universitas Indonesia, bahwa setelah selesai kuliah aku harus mengajar di Universitas Indonesia dengan masa 2N alias 4 tahun.

Aku memilih tidak mengurus surat itu. Toh, aku sudah diterima Eiffel Scholarship. Ah, malas ngurus yang lain.

Kembali ke kasus TSE. Awal Juni 2009, akhirnya aku menerima surat resmi bahwa aku diterima Eiffel Scholarship. Tak hanya itu, aku diberi tiket pesawat terbang 28 Agustus 2009.

Alhamdulillah, aku resmi menjadi bagian dari Eiffel Scholarship. Terlebih untuk kuliah ekonomi di Toulouse School of Economics, institusi top di Eropa untuk belajar ekonomi.

Inilah hasil kerja keras selama berbulan-bulan. Dan semua itu tidak lepas dari banyak pertolongan. Satu hal menarik disini, aku banyak dapat informasi dari internet. Berkat internet, semua jadi lebih mudah. Aku belajar banyak bagaimana mengisi form aplikasi dari internet. Aku dapat banyak kenalan dari internet, yaitu Google danFacebook.

Seandainya semua orang bisa memanfaatkan internet lebih optimal, pasti banyak orang Indonesia sukses mendapat beasiswa ke luar negeri.
